CYPS - Health ( Working in the acute part of health such as hospitals)

South Tees NHS Trust is situated over two sites, James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and The Friarage in Northallerton. The Trust employees around 7000 staff, so there are a vast range of careers available.

The area of Children’s Services is situated across the two sites; to work specifically within Children’s Services requires a nursing or midwifery qualification that can be gained locally at Teesside University. In addition to this the skills required to become a great nurse are compassion, empathy, excellent communication and caring skills and they need to be excellent team workers. Some of the roles at South Tees NHS Trust are Children’s Community Nurse, Paediatric Intensive Care Nurse and Midwife.

The other services that the Trust provides are the Nursery and the Play Scheme; this service provides care to children while their parents are at work. These roles require a NVQ qualification that again can be gained locally, at various colleges in the area such a Middlesbrough College.

Working with children and Young people is an extremely rewarding vocation to choose and in particular choosing to start that career with South Tees NHS Trust is a great step to take. The Trust already has links with local colleges and universities in order to produce the best training and qualifications needed to continue providing outstanding Children’s Services to the area.
