Working with children and young people aged 5 - 11

There are a number of opportunities within Voluntary and Community sector (VCS) settings to work with children and young people aged 5 - 11.

Many Out of School clubs, Junior Youth groups and Extended Services offer a range of facilities and activities for Children and Young People in the 5 – 11 age category. These services are largely supported by local schools, County and District Councils and parents.

Uniformed groups e.g. Beavers and Brownies, also provide a variety of activities for Children and Young People across North Yorkshire. Other uniformed groups like St Johns Ambulance have a large number of Badgers and Cadets aged 5 - 11. St John’s Ambulance encourages Children and Young people to support their local communities and work with other youth organisations.

The VCS also provides many specialist services for disabled children and young people. There are charities and organisations across North Yorkshire providing family friendly information and practical support when needed.

Other VCS areas of work with the 5 - 11 age range include:

  • Arts & Media groups
  • Leisure and Sports groups
  • Child Minders
  • Junior Youth Clubs
  • Drama and Dance groups
