Working with children and young people aged 11 - 16

There are a number of opportunities within Voluntary and Community sector (VCS) settings to work with children and young people aged 11 - 16.

Due to the rural nature of North Yorkshire many villages and market towns will provide local services for young people. These will include sports clubs, dances classes, out of school activities and most frequently youth clubs. These services are mainly run by local volunteers and parents and are supported by North Yorkshire Youth. North Yorkshire Youth provide support and advice on policies, procedures, funding and insurance to the volunteers who run youth projects across North Yorkshire.

Uniformed groups e.g. Scouts, Explorers and Guides are also main providers of services and leisure interests for young people age 11-16. The VCS also provides many specialist services for disabled young people where charities and organisations across North Yorkshire, provide youth clubs, activities, respite care, information and practical support when needed.

Other VCS areas of work with the 11 - 16 age range include:

  • Arts & Media groups
  • Counselling, Support and Self Help groups
  • Family Support and Advocacy groups
  • Youth Drama and Dance groups
  • Sport and Leisure groups
  • Duke of Edinburgh's Award
  • Faith Groups
