Personal Advisers (PA) work mainly with teenagers but can also work with young people aged 11 – 13 and young adults who may have special needs up to the age of 25. Personal Advisers are skilled in assessing individual young people’s needs, providing information, advice and guidance and referring them on to other people or agencies who can help them. A Personal Adviser will be able to support a young person to ensure that they meet their personal, social and/or educational goals.
At least 2 years recent experience of working with young people. An NVQ4 (or equivalent) in a recognised field that relates to the skills and knowledge required for working with young people. For example in youth work, Advice & Guidance, community nursing.
All newly appointed Personal Advisers receive in-house training related to their work. People with appropriate experience and skills but without the relevant qualification can be appointed as a Part-trained Personal Adviser on a lower salary grade and will be supported to attain the NVQ4 in Learning, Development and Support Services.
