Children & Young People's Service - Careers

Career: Early Years Professional Status

Section: Early Years

Function:

Early Years Professionals (EYPS) are key to raising the quality of early year’s provision. You will lead practice across the Early Years Foundation Stage, in a range of settings, modelling the skills and behaviours that promote good outcomes for children and supporting and mentoring other practitioners. Each children’s centre must have an Early Years Professional in place by 2010 and a full day-care settings by 2015.

Entry Requirements:

Early Years Professional Status is a postgraduate status, therefore you must hold a degree to be able to achieve it. However there are 4 fully funded pathways to achieve Early Years Professional Status. Validation Pathway-This takes approximately 4 months for those with a degree and relevant experience that are already close to demonstrating the standards required. Short Extended professional (EPD) Pathway- This is for those with a degree and some experience, but who have gaps in their practical experience. Long EPD Pathway- This is for those working in Early Years and holding a Foundation degree who need to ‘top up’ to a full degree or who needs to extend their practical experience. Full Training Pathway-This is for graduates not currently employed in the Early Years sector.

Training Options:

As an Early Years Professional you will have access to an exclusive Network where you will be able to access customised training packages and seminars to help support you in leading practice. Full access to continuous professional development courses through the Extended Services Training Directory
